OpenSUSE Linux Tips, tricks, how-tos, opinions, and news
My Resume - My LinkedIn Profile - twitter: @scottmmorrisSUSE Linux 10.1 RC1 has been released! Go check it out.
Oh, man. I think it would be a great way to continue my Top 10 Reasons Linux pwns Your OS by taking you to an article about how much everyone hates IE7 so far. Sweet, well, I just happen to have that very thing.
Favorite Quotes from the above article:
“Firefox is far ahead of IE in terms of usability, accessibility, extensibility.”
“My guess is that when IE7 goes gold, more people will be driven to start using Firefox.”
“After claiming that it is ‘irresponsible to run Internet Explorer outside of the few company-approved web sites’ and it should be restricted to internal-use-only, Mazek roared, ‘I’ll take it a step further: Anybody purchasing ActiveX driven software should be fired, on the spot.’”
“What’s better, being a one legged man in an ass kicking contest or IE7?”
I’d have to say the one-legged man in the ass-kicking contest, personally. However, you’re right, I haven’t tried it out myself (and I can guarantee that I never will). I’d rather carve my face off with seven dull chainsaws.
What better way to support my anti-illegal immigrants piece than to refer you to someone else who mirrors my sentiments almost perfectly. Read what he’s saying, people. Then agree.
Enough with the SCO crap already. You can’t make up for having moronic business practices by throwing a fit and claiming that the entire OSS world owes you money for something you don’t even own. Go open a lemonade stand and earn your money honestly just like the rest of us honest folk do. Someone should tell these clowns that they’re shooting themselves in the foot by doing all of this. If you throw a tantrum like a baby and then treat the rest of the world like they owe you, no one will play with you. There’s a little tidbit of info I learned in Kindergarten. Grow up, get over it, and then get a real job involving not trying to screw the rest of the world because you feel like you got cheated. Here’s a crying towel for you; let me grab a violin for you, too.
“Microsoft” is now a synonym for “terrorist.” Dude, I think the guy that wrote that belongs to the same religion that I do. Anyway, he tells how M$ has made threats to do this and that, just like terrorists do. They infiltrate and then hold hostages and make demands. Hm… sounds like M$ to me. Man, talk about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. “If you can’t beat them, join them” is what is apparently going on. In reality, it’s more like they want to slip in under the radar and get a real feel for the OSS community’s strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, and so on. They want to get an insider’s view, as if to get a better perspective of their enemy. This will give them a more educated strategy with which to attack the OSS movement. Believe me, they are not the good samaritans that they are letting themselves on to be. They want fresh ways to try and wipe Linux out of existence. I’m telling you… do not fall for it.
I found the new Google Calendar incredibly cool. My psyche gets fragmented, and my memory starts to forget itself. What I found cool is that you can search “public” calendars for events. There are different views (day, week, month, next 4 days, and agenda) for your calendar. Also, everything is fully searchable, just like your gmail account.
Best saved for last, yo. Here’s the real meat of what I need everyone reading this to think about: Linux Looking Like the Enterprise Way to Go Yup, Linux is gaining momentum. It is in the desktop market. It is in the server market. Just like I’ve been saying. M$ is losing ground. Understand what I’m saying here: this revolution is only beginning. Start using Linux now. It’s only a matter of time before you will need to know how to use it. Besides, it’s funner, more interesting, more powerful, and way more l33t than Windows. Mikey likes it, and so will you.

I am running SuSE 10.1 Beta 9. Is it possible to upgrade to RC1?
April 13th, 2006 at 10:28 am
I asked Andreas Jaeger that exact question. His response was as follows:
“Boot from the CD and choose Update (and not Install) from YaST. Note
that this might not work between betas at all – e.g. if there’S a bug
in one beta that prevents upgrade we will most likely not work around
it.”
So, I am assuming that means that you should be able to, but he makes no guarantees.
